The region around Williams was first explored in 1836 by Lieutenant Henry Bunbury and settled soon after, despite adverse reports by Bunbury on the region's potential. Williams became a major stopover point on the old coach road from Albany to Perth. Today it is a thriving agricultural centre with the main industries being wool, cattle and coarse grains.
Attractions in the area include the Jesse Martin Antique Museum displaying a superb collection of artefacts and the historic Quindanning Hotel. Nearby Dryandra Forest is home to an abundance of wildlife and in the springtime, the wildflowers, provide an impressive display of colour.
