The first settler to arrive in Tambellup was Mr J. Norrish who established a property to the east of the present town site in 1872. Initially felling sandalwood, he later began breeding sheep. It wasn't until the Great Southern Railway Line reached Tambellup in 1889 that more settlers arrived, resulting in the town being proclaimed in 1898.
The Tambellup Historical Society has a collection of household artefacts and tools from the pioneering days housed in the original Norrish Homestead which has been preserved and is open for inspection.
The surrounding bushland is home to a variety of birds and wildlife native to Tambellup including western rosellas, willy wagtails, kookaburras, parrots, cockatoos and mountain ducks. Grey kangaroos and brush wallabies are also a common sight.
