The coastal town of Seabird, in the Midlands region, was originally established to service the surrounding farming district. Today it has a growing fishing industry although beef, sheep and wool are still important industries.
The beach at Seabird offers a safe swimming spot and is also popular with windsurfers and for boating and fishing. Fishing has long been a major attraction at Seabird and at nearby Lancelin and Ledge Point. Rock cod, parrot fish and john dory are caught on the reefs, while farther out, herring, skipjack and whiting are found.
Like much of the region, Seabird has magnificent wildflower displays in the spring and is particularly noted for the unusual species which bloom along the coastal heath. Birdwatchers will find a variety of sea birds in the area and other native wildlife including kangaroos and wallabies abound.
Attractions nearby include the sand dunes at Lancelin. The pure white sandhills, inland from the township are unique and provide a vast playground for visitors.
The closest large town to Seabird is Gingin which is one of the oldest towns in Western Australia. It was founded a year after Perth and plenty of historic sites and buildings remain in the district.
