Great Southern Region

The Great Southern Region of Western Australia is a land of lush green forests, tranquil inland waters, mountain ranges, gently rolling valleys, rugged coastline, dazzling white beaches, peaceful National Parks and much more. The National Parks of the Great Southern offer some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery in the whole of Australia. The Stirling Range National Park and the Porongurup National Park give you the unique opportunity to enjoy entire mountain ranges maintained in their natural state. From September through to November, these magnificent ranges are abundantly carpeted with wildflowers. Over 500 varieties have been recorded by botanists, of which up to 40 are found nowhere else in the world. The Fitzgerald River National Park, meanwhile, covers a wide variety of terrain, from undulating sand plains to precipitous river valleys.

In the Stirling Range National Park, five of the peaks rise to over 1000 metres above the surrounding plain and are especially picturesque when shrouded in mist. You may even be lucky enough to catch sight of the hills covered with a light fall of snow in mid-winter. Bluff Knoll, the third highest peak in Western Australia, offers a magnificent climb for the more adventurous visitor.
