Pemberton, the 'Kingdom of the Karri', is home to the most spectacular hardwood forests in Western Australia. It nestles in a valley surrounded by forest, farmland and troutstocked streams.

The Aboriginal people had used the area as a summer residence long before the arrival of the first settlers, who included among them Edward Brockman, the son of Perth's first mayor. He built Warren House in 1863.

Pemberton has many attractions, a number of them connected to the early timber industry. One of the bestknown is the ancient Gloucester Tree which is claimed as the highest lookout tree in the world with 153 rungs to climb to the viewing platform. Another favourite is the Pemberton Tramway which runs daily through towering karri and marri trees, crossing rustic bridges and stopping at the cascades on the Warren River.

Visitors are advised to call at the tourist centre for information on all local attractions including the many studios specialising in fine woodcraft, vineyards and trout hatchery.
