The small town of Lancelin is famous as the windsurfing capital of Western Australia and as the finish of the annual Ledge Point ocean race. The race attracts interstate and international sailboarders who come to take advantage of the worldclass conditions in the area.
Lancelin's offshore reefs and sheltered waters also provide excellent conditions for a variety of other watersports including boating, surfskiing, dinghy sailing and swimming and fishing from the jetties. Surfskis and dinghy sailing boats can be hired on the beach. Lancelin Island, a natural wildlife sanctuary, can be reached by dinghy.
Extensive sand dunes lie within easy reach of the town and beach buggies are also available for hire to visitors who wish to explore the dunes and vast sandy shore.
From Lancelin visitors can travel to Nambung National Park, although road conditions must be checked before setting out. The park's main feature is the famous Pinnacles Desert. The Pinnacles are one of Australia's most striking and unusual attractions and are well worth the visit. Dutch sailors viewing these limestone columns from the sea thought they were the remains of an ancient city. Sunset here is an amazing experience not to be missed.
