The Lake Grace region was first explored by John Septimus Roe in 1848 and named for the shallow salt lake 8 kilometres to the west. A lookout over the lake is situated 12 kilometres west of the town.
The Inland Mission Hospital established in Lake Grace in 1925 by John Flynn is the last remaining in Western Australia.
Lake Grace is on the way to the town of Newdegate, 53 kilometres to the east. The Newdegate twoday machinery field event held each September is considered to be one of the best in Western Australia.
