The peaceful little township of Dwellingup is situated east of Pinjarra, in the Central South region. Superb views of the Indian Ocean and Peel Inlet can be seen from the road leading into the township.
Dwellingup was first established as a timber milling town late last century. However, very little of the original town is still standing. A fierce bushfire swept through the district in 1961 and destroyed nearly all the original buildings. Only the Dwellingup Hotel was left unscathed.
Visitors can enjoy a real countrystyle meal at the friendly Dwellingup Community Hotel and also of interest to tourists is the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway which runs steam train trips between Pinjarra and Dwellingup. Canoeing is a popular pastime on the Murray River, one of the largest permanent rivers in the jarrah forest. Lane Poole Reserve is a forest recreation area with many camping and picnic areas on the banks of the river.
