Five major rivers feed into the complex of 400 square kilometres of interconnecting waterways that make the Gippsland Lakes the most extensive series of estuarine lagoons in the State. At the centre of the lakes is the settlement of Lakes Entrance, a summer resort and active fishing port with 100 vessels, many of which are engaged in deepsea fishing.
Among the resort's attractions is the famous Ninety Mile Beach with its extensive sand dunes and magnificent beach. Lake cruises and boat hire highlight the beauty of the area. At the Fishermen's Cooperative on Bullock Island the fishing fleet can be seen unloading its catch and the visitor can buy fresh fish.
